Hormone Optimization

Physician-led hormone care for women who don't have time to feel off

Wondering if it's

hormonal?

It might be.

Hormonal shifts can start years before menopause and affect far more than your cycle.

  • Irregular or heavy periods

  • Brain fog or memory issues

  • Mood changes or anxiety

  • Low energy

  • Hair thinning

  • Skin changes

  • Hot flashes & night sweats

  • Fatigue

  • Trouble sleeping

  • Low libido

  • Vaginal dryness

  • Weight gain

If you’ve been told “your labs are normal” or “you’re not in menopause yet,” but you don’t feel like yourself, SheMD can help.

Step One: Hormone Health Assessment

Your journey begins with a  Hormone Health Assessment  — a consultation designed to uncover what’s really happening with your hormones and create a personalized plan forward.

What's included:

✔ Comprehensive symptom & history review

✔ Pre-visit lab orders (so we have your full picture in advance)

✔ Detailed lab review during your visit

✔ Personalized recommendations based on your goals

By ordering labs before your visit, I can review your full hormone picture ahead of time, making our session more productive and focused on next steps.

(Fee includes an adrenal saliva test kit. Bioidentical hormone prescriptions are only written as part of a treatment program.)

Your plan may include:

✔ Bioidentical hormone therapy

✔ Lifestyle, nutrition, and supplement recommendations

✔ Monthly follow-up visits to track and adjust

✔ Ongoing education and support

Step Three: Ongoing Care

After your program, you can transition into ongoing membership to maintain your results and continue optimizing your hormone health. You’ll keep direct access to the physician who knows your history, your goals, and how to keep you feeling your best.

Learn how you can support your team

  • Do you accept insurance?
At SheMD, I believe the best care happens when there are no barriers between you and your doctor. That’s why I’m out-of-network with all insurances. Insurance often limits appointment time, restricts treatment choices, and adds unnecessary red tape. By working outside that system, I can offer longer, unrushed visits, direct access to me when you need it, and clear, upfront pricing with no surprise bills.
  • I have "good" insurance. Why should I pay out of pocket?
Maybe you have good insurance—but do you have good care? Have you had a hard time building a real relationship with your gynecologist? Are you stuck with short visits, surprise bills, and little follow-up support? At SheMD, you get more time, direct access, and personalized care without insurance getting in the way. I offer continuity, convenience, and clarity—so you can stop chasing care and start getting what you actually need.
  • How is SheMD different from a traditional GYN practice - or a telehealth menopause platform?
I see fewer patients so I can give each woman more time, more attention, and more personalized care. You get longer visits, direct messaging, same-week appointments, and one-on-one continuity with me. Unlike large telehealth platforms that rely on midlevel providers and/or strict preset treatment protocols, I bring years of gynecology experience and advanced training in menopause and hormonal health. You’re not just filling out a quiz and getting a standard prescription—I take the time to understand your whole story. And if you need something between visits, you can reach me directly—no runaround, no call centers.
  • What is "integrative gynecology"?
Integrative gynecology combines evidence-based medicine with a whole-person approach. That means I consider your lifestyle, stress levels, nutrition, and long-term wellness—not just the immediate symptoms. At SheMD, I may recommend supplements, lifestyle changes, or lab work in addition to traditional treatments, depending on your needs and goals.
  • Can I still use my insurance for prescriptions and lab tests?
Yes, if you do have insurance you can still use it for prescriptions. You can also use your insurance for tests such as Pap smears, blood tests, and outside imaging (mammograms, breast ultrasounds, etc.). I can provide superbills if you want to try for out-of-network reimbursement for your visit.
  • Do you perform surgeries?
I offer in-office procedures like IUD insertions, biopsies, and more. If you need surgery, I work closely with trusted specialists for seamless care.
  • What if I still have questions?
Happy to help! Use the contact form on our site to reach us and we'll get back to you promptly.
  • Where us your office located and how do I get there?
You'll find SheMD conveniently located in Union Square, easy to reach no matter where you're coming from. The office is one block west of the 4/5/6 trains, one block east of the F and L trains, and just one stop on the 4/5 subway from Grand Central. Whether you're coming from uptown, downtown, across town, or outside of the city, getting here is quick and easy.

When hormones are off, everything feels off

Moodiness? Cramping? Forgetfulness?
Sound familiar? Let’s face it, you don’t have time to be missing work, or to be off your game when you’re there. Perimenopause and menopause can quietly chip away at your focus, energy, and confidence. They don’t have to.

Your hormones don’t operate in isolation. They influence your sleep, mood, metabolism, relationships, and overall sense of self. When they’re disrupted, you feel it everywhere.

As a board-certified gynecologist, Dr. Kahan has more training in women’s health than anyone you’ll meet in the typical “hormone clinic.” She combines this depth of medical expertise with advanced hormone replacement therapy training to create treatment plans that are as unique as you are. Her focus is helping women navigate perimenopause and menopause with precision and care so you can keep showing up as your best self, both in and out of the office.

What sets SheMD apart? No rigid protocols. No cookie-cutter care. Every treatment plan is built around your symptoms, lab results, medical history, and personal goals. Dr. Kahan has the clinical insight to manage side effects, fine-tune your plan, and make real-life adjustments that keep you feeling your best.
